Students admitted for the Fall 2020 semester may opt to defer their enrollment to Spring 2021. Deferrals may not exceed one semester. Merit-based financial aid may not be deferred, but UNCG is committed to providing the most competitive aid package possible for all students for Spring 2021.
Congratulations on your acceptance to UNC Greensboro! Please see below for more information about next steps to enroll at UNCG.
first steps after admission
save your space (do this first!)
You’ll be prompted to accept our offer of admission when you log in to SpartanLink. This is your first step to lock in your seat at UNCG.
Claim your accounts
AFTER YOU’RE ADMITTED… Your University ID# will be sent to you via email within 48 hours. Make note of this number for the future.
IF YOU APPLIED FOR FINANCIAL AID… You can view your aid package on UNCGenie after it has been awarded. (HINT: You’ll get an email from Financial Aid when it’s ready!) You will need your University ID# (see above) and to create a PIN so you can log in.
AFTER YOU’VE CONFIRMED… Check your email for a message from UNCG ITS 1-2 business days after you have confirmed your intent to enroll. This email will contain next steps to claim your UNCG email on iSpartan.
What are UNCGenie and iSpartan used for? Here’s a quick primer:
UNCGenie is the portal you’ll use to register for classes, pay your tuition and fees, and also take care of other university-related business.
iSpartan is your official UNCG email account. Plan to check this account often, even in the months before classes start; you may receive important messages about financial aid, tuition, and more.
Apply for Financial Aid
Apply for financial aid by filing your FAFSA. December 1 is our priority aid deadline, however, we award aid until the beginning of the semester. If you plan to apply for financial aid, do it as early as possible for the best packaging. Our Financial Aid Office can provide more information about our process.
Apply for housing
80% of our freshmen live on campus. Make plans to apply for housing early for your best chance at your choice residence hall. Housing applications go live in February. Before then, get familiar with our housing options and review the housing application process through Housing and Residence Life.
For a 24/7 residential experience, consider one of our Residential Colleges where students live and learn together in a unique setting. You can apply for a Residential College via SpartanLink if you’re interested.
Register for orientation
Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) is a two-day program held in June and August.
SOAR is not canceled and will transition to a virtual format in June and in-person program in August. The June Virtual SOAR program will be required for all new students where students will participate in virtual small groups, enroll in an online course, and review all of the presentations and orientation materials. Parents & families will also participate in virtual SOAR sessions and have access to all of the presentations and orientation materials.
Next steps before orientation
Complete health requirements
Before attending orientation, you must complete health forms (including immunization verification and medical history). The UNCG Immunizations office is open Monday – Friday 8 am until 5 pm. The office is located on the second floor of the Anna M. Gove Student Health Center. Find Immunization Forms on the Student Health Center website.
Foreign Language Placement Examination
In preparation for studying a language at UNCG, it is important to know which course is your best starting point for that process. If you plan to continue a language that you have ALREADY studied, you must take the appropriate online placement diagnostic before registering for classes.
If you have studied French, German, or Spanish in high school, please register for and complete the Additional Language Placement Diagnostic before your SOAR session. The diagnostic is fully online, will take 15-30 minutes to complete, and is multiple choice (no listening or speaking involved). Information on the testing process for other languages can be found on this website.
Take your student ID photo
Want to skip the line for photos at the SpartanCard office during orientation? Submit your own photo for your SpartanCard using the SpartanCard Center website.
Complete tax forms
Every student is required to complete a W9S Tax Form.
final steps after orientation
Send final grades
Send your official final high school transcripts to the Office of Admissions as soon as your graduation posts to your record. We will also need AP or IB scores and dual enrollment or early college transcripts in order to award appropriate credits. Submit all official documents by July 15 for fall admission (Dec. 21 for spring). Note: Effective March 17, 2020, applicants may submit transcripts electronically to email@example.com.
Submit proof of insurance
You must submit proof of creditable health insurance if you are taking more than six credit hours. You may opt to purchase a student health insurance policy instead.
Pay your tuition
Students are billed electronically each semester for tuition, fees, room, and board (if applicable). Billing schedules and payment deadlines will be available at SOAR and online. Please note that bills are sent to you (not your parents) at your UNCG email address. Check your iSpartan (UNCG email) account often.
