Meet Our Spartan Guides

SohmSohm G.

Major: Accounting and Finance

Anticipated graduation: 2020

Hometown: Winston-Salem, N.C.

Motto: No man is an island.

Goals: To become a certified public accountant and be a financial advisor with appropriate licensure.

Why I chose UNCG: UNCG is a beautiful school with award-winning programs, and it's close to home.

Best UNCG moment (so far): Finding clubs and programs that interest me, and also attending various UNCG sporting events.

Biggest UNCG surprise (so far): The UNCG student body is very diverse and is accepting of all types of people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Favorite place on campus: The Digital Media Commons (in Jackson Library) is a great place to study, socialize, and play video games.

On weekends: I read, hang out with friends, and get a head start on the week's homework.

Favorite class: "Green Literature" (RCO-204) with Dr. McNees. We discussed and read from many authors including Thoreau, Ralph Nader, and Rachel Carson. This class influenced me to read more, question more, and self-evaluate my own practices and how they impact the space around me.

Student involvement: Cornelia Strong Residential College, National Residence Hall Honorary service committee, College Democrats of North Carolina, Guilford Hall Council, Bryan Student Ambassador.

Favorite campus eats: Old Town Draught House

Favorite Greensboro activity: I like going to the many coffee shops around campus and in downtown Greensboro, including The Grinder coffee truck when it stops by campus.

If I could have a superpower, it would be: The ability to breathe underwater, so I can explore the vast oceans and seas!

My advice for future Spartans: Get involved in as many things as you can! Clubs and organizations are a great way to make new friends and develop relationships and hobbies. The college experience is what you make of it, so enjoy it to the fullest.
