MaggieMaggie L.

Major: Communication Studies and Classical Studies (Classical Civilization concentration)

Anticipated graduation: 2019

Hometown: Colchester, Conn.

Motto: The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.

Goals: To inspire a love of history in others through museums and restoration programs. I'd also really love to teach classical history at a collegiate level and maybe do my own archaeological dig and research.

Why I chose UNCG: I was looking for a school with a much warmer climate than Connecticut and a lot less snow! I also really loved the atmosphere when I came on my own tours, and I loved how friendly all the people were and how beautiful the whole campus is.

Best UNCG moment (so far): Traveling abroad to Rome over the summer with the Classical Studies Department.

Biggest UNCG surprise (so far): How many opportunities there are to get involved on campus, from leadership programs to clubs for all interests. There's always something going on, and every event is super-inclusive to all students.

Favorite place on campus: The Minerva statue. There are so many beautiful flowers surrounding it, and the benches are a great place to just sit and relax. It's also really neat to see all the students who come to drop off apples with Minerva before their tests!

On weekends: I go exploring downtown with friends to get dinner and explore all the cool shops and parks there.

Favorite class: "Introduction to Roman Archaeology." I took this class my freshman year of college, and I just fell in love with Rome, and the history behind the civilization, and all the work people have done excavating the ancient monuments there.

Student involvement: UNCG Classical Society, UNCG community garden, Ashby Residential College.

Favorite campus eats: Bojangles'

Favorite Greensboro activity: Going to Friendly Pets and playing with all the animals!

If I could have a superpower, it would be: Teleportation — being able to pop up anywhere I wanted would be awesome! And I'd save a fortune on plane tickets!

My advice for future Spartans: Keep an open mind and go to as many events as possible! UNCG has all types of free events every day, and they're a great way to get involved and meet new people while having tons of fun!
