Meet Our Spartan Guides

Kathryn K.Kathryn K.

Major: Nutrition/Dietetics

Graduation Year: May 2017

Hometown, State: Westminster, Md.

My personal motto is: Everyone makes mistakes, but if you learn from it, it's no longer a mistake, it's a lesson.

My goals are: To get accepted into the dietetic internship program right after graduation, then get my master's degree in sports nutrition and become a dietitian working with athletes.

I selected UNCG because: It has a great nutrition program and it was in the South (I HATE the cold).

My best UNCG moment: Joining my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.

My biggest surprise at UNCG: How genuinely nice people here are. I transferred here from another school that was the complete opposite, so it was nice to know that not all schools were like that.

My favorite place on campus: Starbucks, because it's quiet enough to get work done but not so silent that I feel like I can't breathe without getting weird looks. And there's food and coffee- the two staples of college life.

On the weekends: I am most likely hanging out with my sorority sisters or relaxing and watching Netflix after a long week of classes.

My favorite class: KIN 220 ("Physical Fitness for Life") with Dr. Pamela Brown. I liked it because the class was centered around you personally and helped to evaluate your own behaviors to help you live a healthier life. It was very hands-on, and if you were honest with your responses, you could learn a lot about yourself. The things I learned in this class actually helped me in my everyday life, not just to get a good grade in the class. Even if you aren't a kinesiology major, it's a great class to take if you want to start to learn how to be more active and eat healthier.

I am involved in: Greek Life (Alpha Chi Omega). I transferred here after my freshman year, not knowing anyone, and joining a sorority has made my college experience better than I ever imagined it could be. My sisters and I play a lot of intramural sports, as well.

My favorite food on campus: Jamba Juice.

Favorite thing to do in Greensboro: Go to concerts at the Greensboro Coliseum.

If I could have a superpower, it would be: Flying, because I love to travel and it would make it so much easier, faster, and less expensive.

My one piece of advice for prospective students is: No matter where you end up, have an open mind, a positive attitude, and don't be afraid to try new things or talk to new people. You never know who could end up being your best friend.
