Major: Professions in Deafness with a concentration in Deaf Education

Graduation Year: Spring 2018

Hometown, State: Spruce Pine, N.C.

My personal motto is: Be a pineapple: Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside.

My goals are: To graduate from UNCG, get into the classroom, and make a difference in the lives of my students! Eventually, I would love to teach an elementary grade in a school for the deaf and teach in Kenya during the summer months! I'd also love to have my own Airstream and sell cupcakes and coffee from it!

I selected UNCG because: I had been searching all over for the major I am currently in. UNCG had precisely what I was looking for! I also fell in love with the campus immediately at Destination UNCG [a spring event for all newly admitted Spartans]!

My best UNCG moment (so far): Getting to welcome Chancellor Gilliam to UNCG the day he was elected!

My biggest surprise at UNCG: I thought I would be completely lost on my first day of classes, but nope! We have the Spears, who stand around campus in bright green and show you where to go the first two days of each semester!

My favorite place on campus: Definitely a tie between the Foust Building and Taylor Gardens! Foust is just gorgeous, and Taylor Gardens is a sweet, sunny spot to catch some rays and read a book!

On the weekends: I study at local coffee shops like Green Joe's or the Green Bean, peruse Friendly Center with my friends, and when the weather is nice I enjoy relaxing in my hammock on campus!

My favorite class: "Teaching as a Profession" – this class exposed me to what it's really like to be a teacher and helped me realize how much I love education!

I am involved in (include clubs, sports, organizations, SOS, RA): The Lloyd International Honors College, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Spartan Orientation Staff (2015-2016), Campus Crusade, Campus Outreach, Deaf-Hearing College Connection.

My favorite food on campus: Definitely Starbucks! Can't beat an iced coffee with a spinach & feta pretzel in between classes!

Favorite thing to do in Greensboro: Explore all the history Greensboro has! There are tons of neat museums and landmarks to find!

If I could have a superpower, it would be: Being fluent in every language in the world! I think that would be pretty handy!

My one piece of advice for prospective students is: Expect growth from yourself! You are going to change so much as a person, and that's great!
