Students applying to UNC Greensboro for the Spring, Summer, and Fall of 2022 will not be required to submit SAT or ACT scores in order to be considered for admission into the University. The UNC System made the decision to extend the testing waiver for all public universities in North Carolina because of limited testing availability for high school students.

Students who have taken the SAT and/or the ACT can submit their scores to UNCG if they choose. Not submitting scores or submitting low scores will not impact a student’s consideration for admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I take the SAT or ACT?

Taking the SAT or ACT is entirely optional. UNCG will not penalize you for not taking either test or for submitting low scores. We encourage you to take either test if an opportunity becomes available to you because it can only help your admissions decision.

What if I took the SAT or ACT and my scores are low? High?

If you’re proud of your scores, send them in. We may use higher test scores to consider you for admission. If you choose to send in low scores, or none at all, your admissions decision will not be impacted. Low scores will not negatively impact your admissions decision.

How will UNCG review my application without test scores?

We review all applications holistically, meaning we take into consideration all information an applicant chooses to share with us to make our decision. This includes any additional documents not required for the admissions process, such as essays or recommendation letters. In addition to your high school transcripts, we’re happy to read anything you send us.

Is there anything else I can send in to help my application out?

Yes! We’re always happy to read any essays or recommendation letters you send us. We always want to get to know you more than what your transcript tells us. While good grades are important, we understand that you are more than your grades. We want you to share with us as much as you’re comfortable so we can get to know you better.

Will SAT or ACT scores be required for the Lloyd International Honors College?

No. Any scores you choose to send in may be used to determine your eligibility to be admitted to the Honors College, but SAT or ACT scores are not required for consideration.

Will SAT or ACT scores be required for first-year student scholarship consideration?

No. Test scores are not used for scholarship consideration. Please visit our Scholarships page for more information on how scholarships are considered and awarded.
