Mandy M.
Major: Communication Studies
Graduation Year: 2013
Hometown: Charlotte, North Carolina
My goals are: To graduate college with honors and to get an editing job with Cosmopolitan magazine.
I selected UNCG because: It felt like home. I felt as though UNCG was made for me every time I came to visit. I attended another school my freshman year, but the experience doesn’t even compare to how much I love UNCG!
My best UNCG moment: Getting an A on my communication theory research paper. For the paper, I had to create a study and then report my findings. I worked really hard (which paid off…yay!) and had a lot of fun with the project. It was pretty cool to go outside the classroom and apply what I learned to the real world.
My biggest surprise at UNCG: I didn't realize that UNCG was as diverse as it is. It is so nice to be around people who aren't exactly like you. It’s nice to be exposed to new things and new people.
My favorite place on campus: The fountain. It's such a great place to hang out with friends and meet new people. When it's warm out, everyone goes to the fountain; it's the central social spot on campus. It's also a great place to relax and enjoy a beautiful day.
On the weekends I: Love get-togethers with friends. I'd rather be with a group of friends playing Taboo (I'm the Taboo queen!) than be at a club. I also love to watch movies; romantic comedies are my favorite.
I am involved in: I am a member of Students of Action (SOA) and The Summit.
My favorite food on campus: Jamba Juice. The smoothies are really good, and they’re good for you. Strawberry Surf-Rider smoothies are my favorite.
Favorite thing to do in Greensboro: Midnight bowling. It's so much fun to get a group of friends together and have fun in such a simple way. You also get to laugh at your friends who always end up getting gutter balls.
My one piece of advice for prospective students is: College is what you make of it. It can provide you with some of the best years of your life. Have fun, but also make sure you find the perfect balance between your academic career and your social life.
