Plan your campus visit

UNCG is known for its beautiful campus and outstanding facilities. But don’t just take our word for it—visit! We offer daily tours, open houses, and other events for prospective students. And we are always on the road visiting schools and college fairs around the country, so be sure to check out our schedule.

Freshmen are students who plan to enter UNCG directly from high school or adult students who have never attended college.

About the freshman class

  • UNCG typically receives nearly 12,000 freshman applications for the fall semester. On average, 58 percent of these applicants are admitted. The fall 2010 freshman class was the largest in UNCG history, with 2,515 students.
  • The fall 2010 freshman class profile:
    • Average high school GPA: 3.59
    • SAT middle 50 percent ranges: 460-560 (critical reading) and 460-560 (math)
    • Average ACT: 21.8

Freshman requirements and application information

Admission to UNCG for traditional freshmen is competitive based on a combination of your overall high school and/or college record as well as SAT or ACT scores. In addition, in-state and out-of-state applicants must meet the minimum high school course requirements.

All UNC system schools require a weighted GPA of at least 2.3. The average high school GPA for freshmen admitted to UNCG is a 3.59.

All UNC system schools require a combined SAT score (Math & Critical Reading) of 780. The average combined SAT score for freshmen admitted to UNCG is 1080.

Application process

The goal of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is to provide you with an admission decision as quickly as possible. Freshman admission is competitive. It is in your best interest to start this process in the fall of your senior year. Students must complete their applications by the specified deadline to qualify for the notification date. International students should visit the International Programs Center for additional requirements.

Students who are interested in applying to Lloyd International Honors College should note that a separate application is required. Please visit the LIHC site to learn more.

Dual enrollment

High school seniors with superior academic credentials may want to supplement their high school curriculum with courses at UNCG. To determine if you are eligible to enroll as a visiting student, please contact the Undergraduate Admissions at 336.334.5243.
