Student Orientation & Advising
Advising and Registration for Transfer and Adult Students
Transfer and adult students are strongly encouraged to complete their advising and registration prior to SOAR through the Advising & Registration by Appointment (ARA) program. Information about advising and registration is shared via email, so be sure to activate your UNCG computer accounts and check your UNCG email on a regular basis. Visit the Advising at UNCG site for contact information for your department.
Please note that limited academic advising and registration will be available during August SOAR for those who did not take advantage of the Advising & Registration by Appointment program.
If your major falls under the College of Arts & Sciences, you must participate in Advising & Registration by Appointment or reserve an appointment time on your SOAR date. Contact casa@uncg.edu for more information.
Advising and registration is not available during Transfer and Adult June SOAR. All Transfer and Adult June SOAR students must participate in Advising & Registration by Appointment.

Once you accept our offer of admission to UNCG, you will reserve your space for Spartan Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) through SpartanLink. (If you haven’t accepted our offer of admission to UNCG, please click here.)
SOAR is a required program for all new incoming freshman, transfer, and adult students. Spaces fill up quickly; do not delay in making your reservation. SOAR enables you to familiarize yourself with campus resources, learn about UNCG’s expectations for new students, and meet an advisor and register for classes. The SOAR program is the best way to prepare yourself and your family for college life. We offer a concurrent SOAR program especially for parents and family members.
Freshmen
All freshmen are required to participate in the two-day SOAR program, designed to introduce first-time college students to university resources, policies, faculty, staff, and the campus. You will also meet with an advisor and register for fall classes. All freshmen are required to stay overnight on campus during SOAR.
Transfer and adult students
Transfer and adult students are required to attend a one-day SOAR session in June or August, designed to acclimate students coming to UNCG from other institutions and first-time adult college students to the unique culture and processes of UNCG.
Former students and students in the Online Business Studies, Health Studies, B-K Licensure, or Bachelor of Liberal Studies programs are not required to attend SOAR. Please contact your department for advising and registration information.
If you are admitted for the spring term, you will participate in SOAR just prior to the beginning of classes. Information about this program will be emailed in late fall.
Make or change your SOAR reservation in SpartanLink.
